Our Philosophy

WHAT DO WE DO?

Sommelier At Home aims to help wine lovers rediscover the natural bond that exists between the wine and the land. Looking beyond the wine itself, we contextualize it in relation to the entirety of the wine’s history: the cultivation, the terroir, the culture, and the people behind the wine. Through our private wine evenings we showcase the work of the greatest winemakers who produce the finest wines in the world. These wines capture the essence of the earth – they are truly photographs of the soil.

Sommelier guided wine tastings

Sommelier At Home tastings allow you to embrace this philosophy: we invite our guests to not only learn about the wines, but also to understand the ways in which the wines can be appreciated. This sharing is done through the tasting of wines such as prestigious appellations, Grands Crus and Premiers Crus, recent discoveries and private collections. The variety of wines on offer allows you to discover at your own pace the panorama of not only French wines, but also wines from around the world.

WINE SCHOOL ALTERNATE: INTIMATE & FUN WAY TO LEARN ABOUT WINES

We make a constant effort to recognize the work of the winemakers, honor the history of each wine and celebrate the heritage that is shared by these wines. The tasting will help you refine your palate, improve your perceptibility and sensitivity to the nuances of each offering.

The friendly experts at Sommelier At Home offer an original, dynamic, and personalized approach to wine tasting that allows you to discover and enhance your knowledge in the vast and fascinating world of wine.

About Kevin Davy

FRENCH NATIVE WITH A LOVE FOR NATURE

Originally from the sunny Provence, Kevin takes a great pleasure in meeting the winemakers, visiting vineyards and embracing their culture. He shares the philosophy of the winemakers that he has worked with: the spirits of wines are nurtured in the vine, on the ground; the craftsmanship of wine-making links everything together.

FROM WINE EDUCATOR TO PRIVATE SOMMELIER

The concept of Sommelier at Home was born when he was working as a wine educator in a wine school in Paris, where he designed courses and gave lessons to more than 800 students. Inspired by his teaching experience and having a passion to improve how wine knowledge can be shared, he created a new concept for wine lovers to enjoy a nice moment in a comfortable setting and learning about wines at the same time - this is how the initial concept of Sommelier at Home was born. He rolled out the service in Paris and it instantly became a big hit.

BRINGING THE CONCEPT TO HONG KONG

Kevin moved to Hong Kong in 2013 to work alongside Thibault Pontallier (son of Chateau Margaux’s Managing Director Paul Pontallier & Brand Ambassador of Chateau Margaux in Asia) and Arthur de Villepin (son of the former Prime Minister of France) at Pont des Arts, a Hong Kong based wine company that connects art and wine, with collaborating artists such as Zao Wou-Ki and Yue Minjun and point-of-sales in luxury retail stores such as DFS and Lane Crawford.

In 2014, Kevin founded Sommelier at Home to share his passion and knowledge with wine lovers in the city.

In 2017 Kevin created Les Sommeliers. A wine brand sourcing wines globally from independent winemakers to create a range of affordable everyday wines. He continues to educate and support local restaurants to promote wine to an audience that desire to enjoy a consistent, delicious glass of wine without the fuss and complexity that wine sometimes bring.

In 2020 he also became Tasting Coordinator alongside James Suckling, Wine Critic based in Hong Kong rating about 20 000 wines yearly. Kevin worked with the James Suckling team on the organisation of their events since 2014 taking care of the wine service. Nowadays he is part of the team, coordinating and tasting wines from all over the world and discovering new gems one bottle at a time.
